Meet Meghan McCoy! Meghan is a Midwest girl born and raised. Currently rocking her bliss in Des Moines, Iowa, her little city with a big time feel. She spends her day creating ways to connect and elevate her community through her work at lululemon athletica. She has an obsession with helping others discover their greatness. That manifests itself in leading vision and goal workshops, blogging about shared experiences, and reading all the self-help books she can get her hands on.
What rock your bliss?
People seriously rock my bliss. Not a day goes by that I am not overjoyed with gratitude for the people I have in my life. From my little nephew who reminds me to play hard, to the people I work with who hold me to my best self, I can’t help but be dedicated to learning and growing when I have the love and support of my awesome tribe. Moving my body also rocks my bliss. I get the privilege of having a happy healthy body that can do some incredible things. CrossFit, yoga, swimming, running, long walks: I feel the most alive while in motion and sweating.
Describe your perfect day.
My perfect day is actually a specific day on the calendar. It’s the 4th of July. I am in love with this day because it has all the makings of a perfect day already built into it. Waking up and hitting a gnarly partner workout at my gym, then taking some sweet time to make a massive breakfast to refuel. Hitting a pool or lake after that to get some sweet sunshine in. Then obviously grilling and more food is involved. Ending the night by a big bonfire with one of my very favorite foods, smores. Topping it all off with fireworks. Explosions in the sky to remind me of how ridiculously lucky I am to live in such a beautiful country with nothing but freedom and possibility to get after everyday. God Bless America, it’s a beautiful day.
When do you feel the most creative and alive?
When I am leading vision and goals content. When I started working for lululemon I took a deep dive into this personal development world and haven’t stopped discovering since. To craft and then deliver the parts that have resonated with me the most gives me this authentic connection with those I am working with. Nothing makes me feel more alive than leading someone to hit that light bulb that shows them they are capable of so much greatness in this world. When they discover their core values and explore the audacity it takes to get after their goals is just pure magic to me.
Share a huge goal you are rocking?
Rock Your Bliss: IOWA - [just SOLD OUT] September 15th 2016! Did anyone else just get goosebumps? Mary Beth and Jacki are coming to my hometown (MB’s home state!) and leading my community through this life changing content that I have been so inspired by for the last year. Creating this event means working with so many rad people in Des Moines and creating a shared experience to inspire our city for years to come.
If you could get on a plane right now, where are you going?
Yosemite National Park. It is a big time goal to learn to rock climb and hike around one of our nations most breathtaking landscapes.
How do you handle setbacks?
First I have to feel that shit. Be sad, be pissed off, be disappointed. Brene Brown talks about writing your “shitty first draft” in her book, Rising Strong. This is a good way for me to give myself permission to feel all the feels and then gives me some perspective. After my "shitty first draft" I know that a phone call to my God Mother, a solid workout, and my above the line playlists shifts me back from below the line. From there, it's time to reset some goals and reevaluate my vision for my next steps.
How do you come home to yourself?
My core values bring me back home. Since doing the work to identify these and defining them, I have worked hard to recognize when I am out of balance. Choosing courage, gratitude, serving my tribe, getting creative, and being a part of movement in the physical sense, or the broader sense of being a part of a movement, they all bring me back to who I am at my soul level. (s/o to Rock Your Bliss + lululemon for this work)
What are 3 ways you rock self-love?
- breakfast - I am OBSESSED with a really kick ass breakfast. Nothing rocks the self love quite like a pecan roll from La Mie Bakery.
- books - giving myself a nice big book budget feels like I am investing in myself and contributes to what I can offer to the world.
- coffee - I am pretty sure it makes me a better person in general.
