Meet Brianna Welke Turpin! Brianna believes that yoga is for everyone and that we all benefit from reconnecting with our breath, bodies and authentic sense of purpose and being in the world. Her approach to yoga is "come as you are" this practice is meant to meet and transform you where you are at in your own physical, mental, and spiritual life.
Brianna has been cultivating her own practice for nearly a decade and began my training as a yoga instructor at Samadhi Yoga Center in Seattle, Washington. She combines dynamic anatomical alignment with mindful mantra, spiritual awareness, and energetic function. Her classes are both physically active and a deeper unification of the mind and body-- they'll help you get out of your head and into this moment! Aiming for balance, optimal health, peace of mind, and fun! She assist students through challenging, fun, interesting yoga classes with the belief that yoga is a unique experience for everyone!
1. What rocks your bliss?
Feeling freedom, joy, relaxation and fun in my own body and mind and helping others do the same. Going deep and teaching yoga teachers. Deep relaxation and expansive energy. Learning new things. Helping others relax and awaken their true potential. Geeking out hard core on ancient yogic texts. Sitting in the presence of my teachers, sitting in the presence of my friends. Snuggling with my family. The feeling of looking forward to my days ahead. Being on the beach and submerging in salt water.
2. Describe your perfect day.
After an amazing night of sleep (huge part of a perfect day!) I sit quietly watching the morning light scatter and sip on coffee, scratch that, someone brings me Intelligencia while I'm still in bed! I wake up, walk outside, lay out the yoga mat and sit on it, taking a few deep breaths and then simply moving in ways that feel good, I am a huge advocate of developing a home practice full of movement and ritual. I put on a dress and it's time for brunch. Maybe a little bit of lounging at the beach or poolside with friends (I live in SoCal afterall!) top that off with wine tasting and a delicious vegetarian dinner and ahhhhh!!! The perfect day also requires: uncontrollable laughter, the feeling of being overwhelmed by love, a deep sense of gratitude for this life and it's infinite potential.
3. When do you feel most creative and alive?
When I wake up and drink my cup of coffee in the rising morning light and feel the true potential within myself and all things. When I'm teaching I'm so in the moment and so open to divine energy flowing through me. The responsibility of holding space in this way for other people awakens my creativity, intuition, and really my best self.
4. Share a huge goal you are rocking.
OMG now this is exciting! I've been dreaming about leading yoga retreats for years now. All it really took was some encouragement, trust, and a yoga partner friend to go out on the limb and make it happen. I was racked with fear that no one would come, guess what? We sold out the retreat and have a waiting list of 10 people. Currently planning fall and spring retreats for next year!
5. If you could get on a plane right now, where are you going?
Bali for sure. It's beautiful & magical. The culture is full of kindness, devotion, and ritual. It's like slipping into a dream land. The hindu tradition is so alive there, it just feels like the most natural place in the world to reconnect with yourself.
6. How do you handle setbacks?
Deep breaths, optimism, a total trust that my life is unfolding exactly as it should be. I'm committed to continuing to learn, setbacks are some amazing (sometimes unpleasant) teachers.
7. How do you come home to yourself?
Part of my daily yoga practice is upon waking in bed, bringing the soles of my feet together and knees wide, putting one had on my heart and the other on my belly, and sending a loving prayer inward that says "May I be happy, may I be peaceful, may I be free"- this has different versions day-to-day. Coming home to myself has been a practice that I'm slowly getting better and better at, so that I never get too far away.
8. What are 3 ways you rock the self LOVE?
1. Bodywork and massage once a month and soaking in hot water (mineral hot springs preferably!) as often as possible
2. Using essential oils on the daily, I make my own blends (theomessentials.com) and relaxes me and increases my enjoyment in life!
3. Having a day totally off, totally free, with no plans once a week (let's be real, sometimes it's more like once every 2-3 weeks)
