Cortnee Brown

Meet Cortnee Loren Brown. In my first phone conversations with Cortnee, I could feel her zen and creative energy oozing through the receiver. Finally crossing paths in person on mountains in Santa Monica, in a lululemon store or behind a camera, Cortnee is a passionista when it comes to creativity, big vision and making bliss happen. From launching her new project, creating a voice in the World, and snuggling with her pup, Cortnee is a total gem from heart to creation. Read on.

What rocks your bliss? My family. My friends. My man. My dog. Laughing until my cheeks hurt. Making pretty things. Eating (too much) delicious food. Traveling to exotic places. Taking photos. Long rambling conversations. An epic yoga class. Getting out in nature. Music. Art. Creation. Dark beer at a dive bar. Sushi at a fancy restaurant. Breakfast at a diner. Helping people reach their goals. Perfectly inappropriate jokes. Road trips. Beach days. Creative people.

Describe your perfect day. I wake up with the sun and stay in bed snuggling my man and my pooch. While they keep sleeping next to me I read: magazines, inspirational books, my "news" (Pinterest & Instagram lets be real). Then as they start to wake, the three of us start the day with a good hike. We sweat, get some fresh air and get ready to take on the day. Once home I retreat to my cozy office space, spend a few hours creating whatever is on deck that day: editing photos, writing blog posts, connecting with my community. Mid afternoon I push my desk aside and do a little yoga in the middle of the room, stretching and then taking a long restorative savasana. In the evening I go to the farmers market (or eventually the garden in my yard!) and get food for a cozy dinner party at home. Friends and family arrive and we dine al fresco, while the dogs run around the yard. As the sun goes down the sky fills with starlight and the twinkle lights that hang above us.

Share a huge goal you are rocking. I just launched a project that has been over a year in the making! I set a goal years ago to help artists that were lost and struggling to figure out how to make their passion their career, because that is EXACTLY how I felt when I left art school. I didn't know how I was going to do it until the idea hit me like a ton of bricks last year, and I've been working to launch it ever since. Through my brand, Creative Start, I interview creative entrepreneurs (like Miss Jacki Carr!) about their journey to success and share once weekly podcasts and photo essays to inspire the community. Launching was just the beginning because I have big goals for Creative Start, including mentorships, workshops, and sharing 10% of the proceeds back with the community via platforms like Kickstarter and grants. I want people have not only the inspiration, but the means to reach their creative goals.

If you could get on a plane right now, where are you going? Thailand! It's one of my favorite places on the planet and my man and I are planning a trip for my 30th birthday!

How do you handle setbacks? Typically I allow myself a very brief pity party consisting of bitching to my best friend (just trying to be real here). And then I shake it off by doing something physical: yoga, a long walk with the dog, dance party in the living room. Then take a deep breath, thank the setback for the lesson it shared, take another deep breath, and recommit to the goal.

3 ways you rock the self LOVE. 1) Lazy days lounging with my dog. 2) Creating something outside my normal creative work: an epic meal, a painting, a home DIY project. 3) Home spa time: fresh face mask, essential oil bath, mani/pedi.
