Marisa Ranieri

Meet Marisa Ranieri! Currently rocking her bliss & reporting to you live from Iringa, Tanzania where she works to helps farmers increase their harvest.  She's also the president of her own nonprofit, The Nyota Fund, which provides full academic scholarships to driven high-school students in Tanzania's Ngara District. She loves to kickbox, cook, plan adventures, and watch the sun rise!

What rocks your bliss?

Living with intention. I was lucky enough to be raised by loving parents who always encouraged me to set goals and achieve them. I don't think they ever envisioned it would empower me over time to become more independent, more goals-driven, and far more international, but I couldn't be more grateful for the bliss and serenity setting clear goals has brought me!

Describe your perfect day?

Waking up with the sun in a foreign location, sipping a cup of tea, and hiking. I'd share a delicious dinner and a relaxing night chatting with friends & family. Food tastes better when eaten with people I love!

Share a huge goal you are rocking?

I arrived in Tanzania a month ago, and I'm trying to get into the habit of not getting into habits! Each week, I push myself to cook a new recipe and (at least) every two weeks go somewhere new. So far, I've made Ethiopian doro watt and a cauliflower-bacon quiche AND visited a nearby Stone Age Site and learned how to play cricket! Next on the agenda: hiking to a nearby shrine and making homemade pickles!

How do you celebrate you?

By making choices that feel right in my heart. I also celebrate me with the occasional abnormally large wedge of cheese, a sweaty selfie after a good hiking or kickboxing session, and lazy mornings in bed curled up in sweatpants.

What inspires you?

The existence of endless possibility.

Smiles shared with beautiful strangers.

Natural landscapes that take my breath away.

The countless individuals who defy the odds to follow their dreams and create the life they've always wanted.

What is your power outfit?

Most of my power outfits no longer exist in my East African wardrobe, but I always feel killer with my favorite pair of black wedges on...and yes, they made the packing list!

SING! What is your karaoke song?

"Disclosure" by Latch ft. Sam Smith (on repeat for the rest of my life!)

How do you handle setbacks?

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. I always go back to the drawing board and pivot from there.

Gut reaction, what do you think of FAILURE?

Failure = one of the necessary evils that pushes us to face our fear. In my recent blog on fear (Fear Is Just Another Feeling In Our Repertoire), I invite us all to EMBRACE it. We have to remind ourselves frequently that fear is just another emotion out of a slew of countless options. Embracing our fears and our failures ultimately allows us to prioritize our successes and happiness.

3 ways your rock the self LOVE.

1. Taking time regularly to be alone with myself and my thoughts

2. Always smiling when I look in the mirror

3. Never saying no to a food craving
